Wildlife Habitat Canada Exhibit
Art lovers, nature lovers, and hunters have an exceptional opportunity to view and purchase original art and prints of Canadian Wildlife Habitat Conservation Stamp winners at the current exhibit at the Gallery on the Lake near Buckhorn. From August 7 - 27th the rotunda is filled with a fabulous collection of art created by previous and present winners as part of the 20th anniversary celebration of "duck stamps."

In 1985, Wildlife Habitat Canada initiated the sale of Conservation Stamps to all hunters as part of their hunting license. Each year a competition is held to choose the design of this stamp. The first winner was renowned Canadian artist Robert Bateman. He has been followed by other renowned Canadian artists such as J. Fenwick Lansdowne, Michael Dumas, and Kerri Burnett. The 2004 winner is Michele Clarkson for her painting "Silent Passage - Mallards," a mother duck with her little ducklings.

The highlight of this exhibit is a gala fundraiser celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Conservation Stamps at Gallery on the Lake at 8 p.m. on Friday, August 13th with proceeds going to the Otonabee Region Conservation Authority. Artists Michele Clarkson, Michael Dumas, Patrice Walput, and Gary Pulham will be present at the gala on Friday night. Tickets are $25 and may be purchased by calling the Gallery at 657-1108 or 1-888-242-7475. Here is an opportunity to own art by such Canadian artists as Robert Bateman, Michael Dumas, Brenda Carter who are all in much demand.

Three of the winning stamp originals will also be available for sale. These include the 1992 winner by Brenda Carter, the 1993 winner by Ken Ferris, and the 1994 winner by Alan Sakhavarz. Other originals, which have been donated include works by Robert Bateman, Ken Ferris, Michele Clarkson, Patrice Wolput, and Gary Pulham.
