Teresa Mrozicka Gallery on the Lake kicks off its 5th season of spectacular exhibits and new artwork April 30th on the shores of Lower Buckhorn Lake. Having survived the serious downturn in tourism that the area has experienced the Gallery has managed, over the last several years to curate and attract leading artists from across the province and country. Thus, Canada's largest private retail gallery bills itself as having the best selection of original fine art in the entire Kawarthas.
The opening exhibit features the artwork of Teresa Mrozicka. Originally from Poland, she
received her training both there and in Canada. Mastering a technique that she has developed
over a period of years, Teresa creates semi-abstract, vibrant work using bold primary colours
in her own 'pointillism' style. Teresa's technique includes overlapping different coloured dots.
The results are creations of unique style and texture. The artist states: "My well-being and spirit are bound together in the cultivation of the land and my painting practice. I work the land so that I may eat, and in doing so I find the inspiration to paint. In these paintings I coax out the underlying elemental forces of nature. Fire and Water, Earth and Sky, seeming opposite forces are joined. The harmony in this is Creation. I went further into abstraction. I studied the combination of elements and the transitions through the forces of nature within the seasons. The use of the seasons to symbolize the various stages in the course of a human life is an ancient one. For me, Spring is Air - youth. Summer is the Sun and the fruition of our mature years. Autumn is Earth - harvest time, old age. Winter is peace and death. Essential waters are transformed into snow. The theme of a land underlies all my work. It calls to me to reveal its presence through my work. I use primary colours and the challenge is to achieve a harmony of colours in the final result." Meet the Artist at the opening reception in the Main Rotunda from 1-4 p.m. Gallery on the Lake is located 3 kms east of Buckhorn on County Road 36. Our hours are 9-5 daily.
