Four Master Artists The fine art of Glen Loates, Michael Dumas, Brent Townsend, and Arnold Nogy is on display at Gallery on the Lake in Buckhorn, Ontario, from July 24 to August 6, 2004. These four artists have been recognized on a national and international scale for their excellence in producing masterworks of skill and innovation. Loates and Dumas have had their work produced on Canadian Commemorative
Stamps, and all four artists have designed coins for the Royal Canadian Mint. Canadians from coast to coast will undoubtedly recognize Townsend's winning design of a polar bear motif on our two dollar coin, while numismatic collectors will be familiar with the platinum commemoratives designed by Loates, Dumas, and Nogy.
	While all four artists share a common ground in their love of nature and sensitive depictions of wild places and wild species, each has their own personal perspective and special touch in portraying their subjects. It is this combination of compatibility without sacrificing individual vision which brings these four artists together to produce an exhibition of interesting comparisons. The collective works demonstrate masterful handling of such diverse media as graphite, watercolour, and oil, and a range of subjects from the natural world as well as human kind. Townsend's ability shines in living landscapes stamped with the mark of true to life locations. Nogy's complex works in transparent watercolour are a tribute to his intense and highly personal vision. Loates' superlative draftsmanship and delicate handling of line, tone, and colour, stand as timeless examples of the artist's passion. In the works of Dumas there is a sensitivity to both the physical and
psychological identity of his chosen subject, coupled with superlative skill in depicting a wide range of subject matter in a variety of media.
