The Gallery Welcomes Paul Brunelle
Paul Brunelle, born in 1954 Campbellford Ontario, has been fascinated with art since he completed his first oil painting at age twelve. He has continued painting and drawing and began to sculpt in 1985.
Paul describes clay as having essential qualities needed to create his art. In its pliable state, clay can be quickly sketched to capture attitudes and expressions, as well as designs and compositions. The clay can then be allowed to dry to the point when you can carve the surface detail of feathers and a variety of textures. The sculpture is then dried and kiln fired to the permanence of stone.
His sculptures are made of clay, the water based kind that potters use. The clay can be modeled into an endless variety of surfaces depending on the moisture content before firing. It is responsive and direct to the touch and is capable of capturing a fresh expression of the subject and of recording the finest detail when required. When it is fired it hardens to the permanent quality that can be observed in the many existing sculptures of antiquity. Onto the fired clay surface he paints with oil colours on the birds and acrylic on the branches and other settings.
The Gallery on the Lake is pleased to welcome Paul Brunelle to our lineup of fine artists.

The Gallery on the Lake is the proud recipient of the Retailer of the Year Award

Chamber Honours Excellence (Peterborough Examiner November 28th 2008)
,
Kawartha Lakes Chamber of Commerce - Eastern Region -held its annual gala dinner and awards of excellence evening Saturday, Nov. 22 at Beachwood Resort. This event was a chance for business leaders to honour fellow community businesses and recognize their achievements. Buckhorn-area businesses including the Gallery on the Lake wound up taking home an impressive four out of nine awards. Congratulations to The Gallery on the Lake
The prestigious Retailer of the Year Award recognizes a high level of sales and customer service, innovative products or services and proven marketing techniques. Congratulations are extended to Gallery on the Lake, which won this award based on its increased sales, impressive exhibits such as the renowned Morrisseau exhibit this summer, effective marketing and promotions, and forging new partnerships such as Costco online (costco.ca). Esther Inglis accepted this award and commented on how much it meant to be acknowledged in this category and as a retailer as she has fought for many years to not just be seen as a tourism destination, but a place to go and purchase world-class art and gifts.

T he Gallery on the Lake Welcomes Neil Blackwell
Renowned North American artist NEIL BLACKWELL will be exhibiting his original artwork at The Gallery on the Lake in Buckhorn Ontario. His originals and giclee prints will be exclusive in this area to the gallery. After twenty two years, Neil's wife Linda, is retiring from her galleries. Blackwell will now paint from his home studio Mr Blackwell's originals are displayed around the world in many art collections including, but not exclusive to, British Airways, Seagrams, St Lawrence Explosives in New York, Lennox Corporations and Princess Margaret Hospital. "We are looking forward to working with The Gallery on the Lake. They have many new, exciting and unique ideas." says Blackwell

Art gallery teams with Costco

Gallery on the Lake in Buckhorn is now the only art gallery in Canada partnering with Costco.ca to sell Canadian art to Canadians. Gallery owner Esther Inglis said the cost-effective options allow art lovers from across the world to glimpse some of the high-quality work produced in Canada. Although Costco already carries prints from distributors whose business only comes from the sale of prints, this is the first time Costco.ca has partnered with a gallery, she said. "Many of what they carried was prints by the Group of Seven, of course all are dead, or old European masters," she said. "These are prints from living Canadian artists." Depending on the size of the piece, the prints range in price from $750 to $1,200.
"These are the highest quality prints you can find," she said, adding the Costco prints selling for $1,100 have been compared at other retailers for $1,800. "It's a fantastic deal." The prints are not displayed at any Costco store, but can be viewed on the Costco.ca website.
"This means tremendous exposure for the artists, who can potentially become household names," Inglis said. In the spring, Costco.ca buyers looked through original art from the Gallery on the Lake and chose to feature living Canadian artists Jennifer Lawton, Tim Packer, Norman R. Brown, and David Vasquez. The first images went online in August, she said.
"Tim Packer is our best selling artist," she said. "There is a long line-up to get one of his originals. But now people can own a print instead." The limited edition high-quality giclees (canvas prints) are signed by the artist and come with a certificate of authenticity, she said. "All four artists that they picked are considered top up-and-coming artists. We hope this is the start of something really big with Costco." Inglis said orders have already been coming in from across Canada. Costco.ca takes the orders and the Gallery on the Lake arranges the production, packaging and shipping of each piece.
