| Cathy promises a moving array of
her mixed media works as well as a dazzling display of her metal pieces. Joining Cathy for the
first time is her husband Neil with his sculpted wood forms. Working in a variety of mediums Cathy continues to expand her creative boundaries. By utilizing materials not commonly considered as canvas or paint Cathy develops exciting art forms reflecting her unique interpretations of nature. Her initial journey into mixed media began with slate and chalk pastels. The mediums marry to produce virtually glowing results. With the freedom of working in mixed media naturally lending itself to experimentation, metals are now commonplace in her work. Cathy's mild steel sculptures continue to develop a life of their own. With the addition of chalk pastels to add pigment to the steel a new dimension has been added. Each piece is hand drawn to make original sculptures expressing life and laughter. This exhibit shows her subject matter is motion. Pine trees are dancing, the oaks are windblown, horses are in mid-leap or mid-stride. Everything is in a dance of colour and movement. Joining Cathy is Neil Mark, a completely self-taught wood sculptor. He produces unique art forms from locally harvested burls. By staying true to nature's original creations his pieces take on a sensual earthy quality unlike any other. Cathy Mark participates in a number of group and solo shows, she exhibits at the Buckhorn Fine Art Show each summer. "Motion" will be at the Gallery from June 10 to June 30. |
