Silvia Armeni "These are my Countries" - featuring Silvia Armeni Acclaimed artist Silvia Armeni will headline a much anticipated new exhibit featuring her trademark fabric collages along with oils and watercolours at the Gallery on the Lake starting July 28th. Silvia Armeni begun her life long artistic career with her first show in Rome in 1975 . a passion deeply rooted in her family that dates back to Francesco Hayez (1791/1882), founder of the "Romantic" movement in Italy - his most famous work being "The Kiss. Since then, she has enjoyed innumerable successful shows in Italy and in Canada where she set up her studio in 1979. Her "magical" collages and oils featuring Canadian winter Landscapes have earned her the reputation as one of Canada's leading artists. Her works are widely collected and her shows are highly anticipated.
The collages, rarely larger than 8 by 12 inches, are made using tiny bits of fabric meticulously glued side by side in such way that at first glance, could be mistaken for paintings but as soon as one gets closer the intricacy of this unusual technique magically reveals itself. While she likes to work with fabric she is also attracted by other media such as oil and watercolours sharing her passion for art among them, changing from one medium to the other with ease.

	Unequivocally, Armeni's body of work shows her Italian Canadian identity. While her fabric collages depict Venetian canals and Italian villages made with a realistic style, her oil paintings are scenes of rural and urban life with lots of people attending to their daily activities, creatures of her own imagination in a still uncontaminated Canadian environment.
The opening reception and Meet the Artist will be held from 1:00p.m.-4:00p.m. on July 28. The exhibit will continue until August 17. The Gallery on the Lake is located on County Road 36, 3 kms East of Buckhorn.
