| Edwin Longueville, born in Belgium, graduated from the Royal Academy of Arts with an MA in Art History. He then continued his education in London, UK, at the London Polytechnic where he studied photography. It was while he was an art teacher in an Australian high school, that he apprenticed pottery under a Japanese master. Pottery has always been one of his great loves, and for 10 years he was the pottery instructor at Sir Sandford Fleming College. His love of teaching and pottery combined has made him a well-respected member of the craft. He now operates his own pottery school and studio. "Green Heron" pottery specializes in large pieces, usually 20 to 28" in diameter and 12 to 24" high. Each pot using from 25 to 50 pounds of clay. These pieces are then carved with a "waters edge" motif of reeds, grasses, lily pads, and dragonflies; the carving is glazed with dark greens, browns and whites. The transparent signature glazes are then applied over the whole pot in a gradual transition from blue at the bottom to green at the top. Each work is unique in both its carving and glazing, and bears the "Green Heron Signature". Edwin's work is proudly displayed at the Gallery on the Lake. |
