ANDREW. N. OLSCHER'S New "Eco-scapes"

Gallery On The Lake opens a new solo exhibit featuring Andrew Neil Olscher with his signature, large, boldly coloured, highly textured, acrylic paintings, on June 14th 2008.. Andrew Olscher hopes that more people will come to discover not only his artwork, but that of the other, more than 100, mostly Canadian artists that the gallery exhibits

"Not to sound cliché, but Gallery On The Lake is not only a 'jewel of the Kawarthas', it is a diamond on the Canadian art gallery scene – and I am proud and excited that I have the opportunity to show there on a regular and featured basis," Olscher explains.

Since the gallery was reopened several years ago it has evolved from being heavily focused on wildlife art into a showcase of eclectic styles that appeal to just about everyone's taste. Andrew Olscher's paintings range in size from 4 x 6 inches to 4 x 6 feet. The vibrant, loosely styled, intensely coloured, expressionistic canvasses provide a focal point for any room, no matter what the size. "The combination of thick impasto acrylic paint, often flowing into stained and washed backgrounds, provides for complex intermingling of colour that often provides a source of imaginative inspiration for viewers. Everyone seems to see the intentionally painted flowers of the gardens, or trees of the landscapes, but I am often surprised and pleased by the variety of interpretations of the more abstract backgrounds. One viewer sees birds, another perhaps rolling hills or clouds in the sky, while yet another may see a ghostly apparition. Better yet, if a viewer comes back and interprets or notices something different every time. In my estimation, art should be dynamic - it should "live" to be successful," Olscher concludes.

"You can find just about anything at the gallery - from the expressionism offered by my work to the abstraction of Sterling Edwards, absolutely breathtaking work of famed, late native artist, Norval Morriseau, who will be featured in the weeks following my exhibit, to the unique depiction of the Canadian landscape by very popular Tim Packer and Norman Brown," says Olscher

Gallery On The Lake which receives about 10,000 visitors a year, is one of the largest privately owned art galleries in the country and exhibits many of Canada's leading contemporary artists.

So why not get out and visit local, buy local and put a few of those gas dollars otherwise spent going elsewhere, back in your own pocket and support those who make the Kawartha district one of the very best places in North America and the world to live?"

If not as many visitors can afford to come here, we probably can't afford to go elsewhere, so why not open our eyes in our own backyard and enjoy the attractions that people come from all over the world to experience?" Olscher asks.

Andrew Olscher's show opens Saturday, June 14th and runs until July 4th. He will be in attendance to greet visitors and discuss his new work June 14th and 15th from 12 to 4 pm. Gallery On the Lake is located 3km east of Buckhorn on the south side of Hwy 36 and is open 7 days a week from 10 – 5 pm. Call 1-888-242-7475 or 705-657-1108 for more information.
