FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
"Silvia Armeni –Where I Belong"
BUCKHORN, Ontario July 2nd is a special day at the Gallery on the Lake as it marks the return of Silvia Armeni and her highly collected fabric collages and oils. This shy and incredibly talented artist, rarely makes public appearances.
Her show is entitled "Where I belong ". Silvia states "I chose this title because even today the passion for what I have been doing for so many years is still there. I still love to challenge myself with my fabrics depicting the places where I'd like to return whenever I can. I still love to paint my fairy-tales, giving life to fanciful characters who have the fortune of living in a magic world that I would myself like to share in."
Born in Italy to a family of artists, Silvia Armeni moved to Canada in 1979, and found the appropriate environment to fulfill her lifelong ambition of becoming a professional artist.
She returns to her beloved Italy frequently to draw inspiration for her creation of collages of ancient medieval Italian villages or typical Venetian canals, which take shape with the precision of an architectural drawing. Microscopic bits of coloured fabric no bigger than a nail tip are carefully glued together, creating scenes with a special luminosity and vivacity.
The same palette of colours and details are found in her oil paintings, where she depicts Canadian life, mainly scenes from Quebec country life, bringing her people and their rural environments warmly to life.
While Italy inspires her fabric creations, her oil paintings are an expression of her Canadian experiences, depicting bright and playful oil winter scenes. Many viewers comment that they can feel the happiness portrayed in Silvia's winter-themed artwork.
Regarding the oils, Silvia states " This year I predominantly worked on small paintings.
In addition to my typical rural landscapes, I included some subjects of the Maritimes with fishing boats and some winter cityscapes."
The exhibit will run from July 02 to July 29 . The opening reception and "Meet the Artist" will be held in the Gallery Rotunda Saturday, July 2nd from 1-4:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome and admission is free. This opening will provide a rare opportunity for the public to meet and talk with Silvia Armeni; see her works; and add to, or start their collection.
