The Gallery on the Lake in Buckhorn is proud to present a new exhibit of original works by Mary Lampman aptly named "Canadian Treasures".
This new exhibit will be on display in the Gallery rotunda from November 14th onward. Her new works reflect the range of emotions she has experienced over a life time of painting. The results are works that are serene, calm and full of life. In addition she includes a series of abstract pieces that attest to her artistic skills and range. Mary is a world renowned Canadian artist whose primary medium is oil. In 2005, Mary was designated a "Canadian Master" -a highly sought after and prestigious title - by International Artist Magazine In Mary's words - "Light, atmosphere and a sense of place are the things that attract me to certain areas and to capture those qualities. I believe you must focus on what is most important and just go from there".
"Experience has taught me that too many small details force a viewer to miss more important elements of the painting, also it's good to leave a little mystery. I leave out some of the less important details so the viewer can become more involved in the overall feeling of the painting".
I have had the pleasure of being where the paintings have originated, starting my painting in a thin wash of colour, to capture the feeling of the day, or light on subject material or shadows created by moving clouds. Most paintings are then finished in my studio."
One of Mary's works became the Christmas card for the Hiram Walker Company in 1975. She has also had "one woman shows" at The Cobblestone Gallery at Niagara on the Lake, Hilda's Gallery in Sarnia, Fanstone Gallery in St. Catharines, and Roselawn in Port Colborne. Her paintings are in private collections across Canada, the U.S., Japan, and Europe.
Mary contributes to the development of emerging artists by teaching art classes at the Gallery on the Lake. She is loved and respected by all of her students. Mary has enjoyed a long and successful career with The Gallery on the Lake and was among the first artists to return when the gallery re-opened.
The exhibit will continue to December 31.
