Eric Davy

E.J. Davy was born in Toronto in 1986 and grew up as one of three children in an Austrian-Canadian family.  Davy found his inspiration at a young age in the art of hot glass. His first teacher, Alfred Engerer, taught him glass blowing and casting and quickly became his mentor. Davy considers himself fortunate to have grown up in Toronto where he was exposed to a diversity of people, culture, and aesthetic.

At eighteen, Davy was hired by Cathy Hibbits to assist on large blowing installations that she was working on in her Distillery District studio. The following year, he embarked on a backpacking trip through Europe. While overseas, he spent six weeks working for a Logger-Head Turtle Conservation Project on a Greek Island. Upon his return to Canada in 2006, Davy moved to Oakville to attend Sheridan College where he studied forming and casting hot glass, and continued to assist Engerer on a variety of casting projects. During these years, he also worked as a landscaper, child-care giver, arborist, bike courier, server, and as a research assistant for a doctorate study on snapping turtles.

After graduation, Davy worked for two months as a glassblowing resident in Picton Ontarioís Red Barns; An Artisanís Playground. In October 2009, he was hired by Robert Held: Art Glass in Vancouver B.C. where worked making solid pieces and assisting blowers until Spring 2010. Davy then returned to Red Barns for three months, where he managed the studio and created pieces for their gallery.

The Gallery on the Lake is pleased to be exhibiting Ericís work.
