artwork Marc is a self taught water media artist (acrylic, water colour), who began painting in 1976. He graduated in 1980 from the University of Waterloo with a degree in Architecture and Environmental Studies. In 2000 he was elected a member of the Canadian Society of Painters In Watercolour, and is its current President. Marc conducts painting workshops at various venues around the Greater Toronto area and Southern Ontario. For over 30 years I have explored numerous elements and situations with-in natural and man-made environments, which I instinctively find curious and deserving of further study. I seek to understand their essence. I have many interests, consequently my paintings cover a broad range of subject matter. "To probe the essence of my subjects; I paint in a pure, simple and direct method. I allow my subconscious instincts and conscious thoughts to direct my brushes in a lively sort of performance art, a juggling act, mixing deliberate action with spontaneous responsive strokes. Light, composition, colours, lines, shapes, textures, and values are some of my tools. I mentally prepare to execute the painting, however the conscious/subconscious mix is never predictable; the result may often be surprising and enigmatic. " Successful paintings activate the viewer’s conscious and subconscious mind, to discern the subject’s aura. They also contain a degree of the unexplained, and are open to interpretation. My paintings have a life of their own, and often I return to them for insight, finding the seeds of new works, thus ensuring the continuum of expression. |
